Theresa and others asked about raw foods and for a recipe. So here goes.
I am reading The UNCook Book by Elizabeth and Elton Baker (no kidding! That’s really their names!) and also Raw Food for Real People by Rod Rotondi. If you don’t know this raw foods are used by the body so you eat and want much less and you feel great after eating them (not lethargic or down).
Though I cannot eat grain like wheat flour, I can eat raw grains. And I feel wonderful when I do (lots of vitamin B and enzymes!). So here is how I am now making “bread.”
I have soaked barley, wheatgrass and sunflower seeds, (I just laid them out on plates and let them soak in water.) Soaking activates the enzymes, which is why this is so good for your body. Rise off cloudy water once a day. When they are starting to sprout grind them in a food processor (or with a rock on a wooden board, which is much harder…)
Mix into the grain paste any tastes you want like you can add dates, or raisins for some sweetness (this is what I am currently attempting)
Now for the “cooking”. You want to warm it to harden it without destroying enzymes that are destroyed in cooking. If you accidentally kill some, really don’t worry about it.).
“Cooking” Raw Foods
This is the part that I am working on perfecting right now.
You can put it in the oven on very low heat (350 does NOT work.) I am trying 175 degrees.
You can bake it in the sun. (Haven’t tried this yet due to weather issues. And I am in LA!!)
Considering I only manage to realize I should be doing this at night, or its raining or its freezing I have decided to attempt to cook them on a very low heat.
I am attempting this tonight.
The key is not to forget about them (which is a real issue for me).
So the trick is to pay attention! This can also be good for your mental health.
Tune in to find out how it all shakes down in upcoming post – -God, I hope I can do this!!
