Richard Sudworth, BDS, LDS, RCS, (Eng) – a dental surgeon considered dental uses of aloe vera and found there were numerous opportunities to utilize aloe vera products in general dental treatment which he published in Positive Health Magazine in 1997.

“There are many potential applications for aloe vera in dentistry. It is extremely useful in the treatment of gum disease – gingivitis and peritonitis.  It reduces swelling of the soft tissues and consequently this reduces the bleeding of the gums.  It is powerfully antiseptic in gum pockets where normal cleaning is difficult, and its antifungal properties help considerably in treating Denture stomatitis, i.e. red and sore mucous membranes that are permanently covered by a denture. This is a form of thrush, against which aloe vera is very effective.

“Cracked and split corners of the mouth are also subject to fungal infection, and this can be [soothed] by using a topical aloe vera product. Its anti-viral properties help in the treatment of cold sores…”
